SPCA Sign on Devon Damaged

Our SPCA sign on Devon was destroyed during a car accident near Keystone. This happened on March 24th around 7:51 AM. Police and medical professionals responded to the incident. Minor injuries were reported.

We maintain an insurance policy that covers these signs. We have filed a claim with our insurance company. Community members and our Association raised the funds to install these signs over 20 years ago. We have since maintained them. We are hoping to restore this sign as soon as we are able.

Earth Day Clean Up Event

Once again the SPCA is working with Alderman Nugent and the Ward office to organize an Earth Day Clean Up event. The event is scheduled for Saturday, April 22nd.

As with prior years, we are planning on organizing two clean up groups. One group will meet at the east trail near Glenlake and Keystone. A second group will meet by the underpass near the west trail at Granville and LowellWe hope that you pitch in and help either group.

This is a fun and rewarding activity. Join friends and neighbors and help cleanup our neighborhood. Alderman Nugent and the Ward office will deliver cleanup supplies and arrange for additional garbage pick up. You might want to bring your own gloves though.

Signup for Praying Mantis Egg Distribution

The SPCA will distribute praying mantis eggs to interested members this spring. Praying mantis provide safe and effective insect control.  They are voracious predators and wholly organic. We have sourced 400 eggs and seek to distribute them around the neighborhood.

Dues-paying members can signup to receive free praying mantis eggs this spring. Even if you have signed up in the past, YOU MUST SIGN UP FOR DISTRIBUTION AGAIN. This is because some members move or lose interest and we only want to deliver eggs to interested parties.

SPCA Halloween Party and Movie Night Review

Dear Neighbors,

It was wonderful to see friends, neighbors and families at Sauganash Park Community Association’s Annual Halloween Celebration!  Through the tireless efforts and generosity of our neighborhood volunteers, we hosted a wildly successful event.

Senator Ram Villivalam generously donated two bounce houses. Alderman Samantha NugentRep Mike Kelly and Congressman Mike Quigley helped fund our face painter and our friend and neighbor Beata Rogowski sponsored our Balloon Twister.  We were also lucky enough to shake hands with our elected officials who attended.

Taffy Apples, candy goodie bags, apple cider, chalk, lemonade, popcorn galore! A very kind neighbor dropped off the most delightful Halloween buckets for our kids to enjoy. Our spirited neighbor, Jeannie Gillespie, led the kids along a parade route to spooky dance tunes. Our sound and movie setup wouldn’t have been the same without our neighbor Kinan’s expertise. The smiles were plentiful.

Folks, this is the neighborhood we are lucky enough to live in.

Won’t you help us host more events like this one?  With sufficient funding and a few extra hands, the sky’s the limit! We have ideas involving an adult trivia night at Alarmist Brewery, Earth Day cleanup and of course, our wonderful 4th of July picnic.  These events take a considerable amount of time, coordination and funding.  We work tirelessly to add value to our neighborhood and our group of volunteers are second to none.

We had members and non-members alike join our celebration. Neighbors brought friends and family from other neighborhoods.  If you attended and took a minute to purchase a raffle ticket or drop in a few bucks to the donation jar, THANK YOU! If you didn’t have a chance, would you consider chipping in a few dollars to help fund future events?

Feel free to sign up to be a member at a low, low rate of $30 per year to get the latest updates and become a part of Sauganash Park Community Association!  We look forward to having you!

Would you consider sponsoring popcorn supplies?
($30 buys enough popcorn for 30 people!)

Want more amazing raffle prizes similar to the candy buckets and the very generous Thule Stroller (donated by the Maticiucs)?
($15 buys a roll of raffle tickets.

Every. Dollar. Counts. Our volunteers are unpaid and we are very resourceful. We will put your membership dollars to good use to invest back in our neighborhood.

Your friend and neighbor from the SPCA Board,
Iram McGill

Submit Photos for Our Gallery

We made a photo gallery of the event on our website. We’d like to add your photos too. Please submit them through this form or email them to [email protected]. We will be updating the gallery throughout this week.

Feedback Requested

Thank you again to everybody who attended and participated. We are collecting feedback on the event. Please take a few minutes to share your opinions and ideas if you would be so kind.

June Updates – 4th of July Parade and Picnic Info

4th of July Parade and Picnic Event

Each year the SPCA and the SCA work together to celebrate our independence. This is usually done with a large parade that travels through Sauganash, crosses Peterson, and ends at the War Memorial. This is followed by a few short speeches from civic leaders at the memorial, and then all convene at the park for hot dogs, refreshments, and fun.

Parade Begins at 9:30 AM

This year the parade will form on the west side of Sauganash Park at 9 AM on Monday, July 4th. The parade will begin around 9:30.

You and your family are welcome to march with the parade. Bicycle decorations are encouraged! Or spectate alongside the parade route and scoop up some free candy.

Picnic to Be Held After Parade

Please join us after the parade for a picnic at Sauganash ParkOur new membership cycle begins July 1st. We encourage you to pay your dues at the event. Look for our tent. We will give you an SPCA Koozie or two to help keep your beverages cold.

The SPCA will also provide 2000 hot dogs for the event. First come first serve.

Volunteers Needed

The SPCA cannot do our part in hosting this event without volunteers. We need help with the setup. We need help preparing hot dogs. And we need help cleaning up the mess. This is a community effort. And this is a great opportunity to give back to your community.

If you can donate some time, please signup here.

Thank you!

SPCA May 2022 Updates

Pizza Party at Alarmist Brewing

Please join us this coming Thursday at Alarmist Brewing as we honor and thank our neighbors Carrie and Bill Morrissey, who are leaving Sauganash Park.

Carrie and Bill have been active members of the SPCA board since they arrived in our neighborhood a decade ago. Carrie has planned and executed several successful Halloween events, movie nights, and summer parties. And Bill served as President and Chairman of the SPCA. He led our annual hot dog purchases for the July 4th picnic, and he handled many critical administrative functions for our Association.

Your SPCA is organizing, but not sponsoring, this farewell party to express our deep appreciation for all Carrie and Bill have done over the years to put the unity in community. Please come if you can and help us thank them.

At around 5:30, a variety of pizzas will be delivered from Lou Malnati’s. We will have soft drinks for the kids. We will also have a voluntary contribution jar to help cover the cost of the pizzas and soft drinks.

Please R.S.V.P. so we know how many pizzas to order.

We look forward to seeing you there!
